Once ZeuS has been installed on a target system, it provides a way for the attacker to access the system remotely. ZeuS can capture keystrokes and extract bank account information to transmit to the attacker. Of course, theft is not the only thing a botnet client is capable of. Botnets are also used to send spam emails, host web servers that can shift from one system to another, or participate in distributed denial-of-service attacks. In cases where an attacker has millions of systems they have compromised, they are capable of sending hundreds of gigabits or possibly even terabits per second in attack traffic, enough to take a lot of businesses offline so their customers can't connect.
